Ab van Vloten (1934)
Ab van VLOTEN, born 31-7-1934, painter, sculptor. Education: Self-taught. After primary school, Ab van Vloten attended the craft school in Utrecht. He trained as a gold and silversmith and worked for a number of years at Velu in Zeist, a company that specialized in medals, medals and sports cups. From about 1955 to 1970 he worked as a window dresser and decorator at a large department store in Utrecht. Around 1965 he started painting flowers. Van Vloten left for Spain for a number of years. In that period he mainly painted Spanish harbor views. He has traveled a lot all over the world, including South America. Ab was married to a Colombian woman for a number of years. As far as his paintings are concerned, he has developed his own technique: self-hardening synthetic clay on panel. Ab van Vloten is an artist who has seen the world and who let himself be carried away where life took him. His art is interwoven with many aspects from his life and - he is convinced of this - with experiences from past lives. In his experience, all life is a cosmic event, in which spirit and matter, time and eternity constantly influence each other. The whole world is his stage and source of inspiration. He has as much eye for feminine beauty and for flowers and tenderness as for stones and metals. He expresses all this in his works of art. Ab van Vloten lives and works in Wijk aan Zee.
