Alexander Hugo Bakker Korff (1824-1882)

Alexander Hugo BAKKER KORFF (The Hague, August 31, 1824 - Leiden, January 28, 1882) was a Dutch painter. Bakker Korff took painting lessons from Cornelis Kruseman, after which he left for Antwerp for three years and continued to improve his skills under the guidance of Nicaise De Keyser; he painted large canvases, biblical scenes, allegories and nuns, as well as historical pieces.
From the 1950s, Bakker Korff opted for more homely scenes, in which anecdotes were interwoven, such as a yapping dog that startled a group of women. He was also known for his meticulous technique. On the occasion of the exhibition of his works at the Brussels exhibition in 1869, Bakker Korff acquired the Order of Leopold (Belgium).
