Alfred Gockel studied Graphic Design and Art at the University of Münster (Germany).

Alfred Gockel became known in Germany as an artist for the art cards, posters and lithographs, which are published of his work by his own publishing house Avant Art, which he founded in 1983. In 1980 Alfred Gockel buys a screen printing press and publishes several collections of screen prints of own work, in different styles, in limited edition and signed by hand. Gockel's work also became known in the United States through his company. There alone, Gockel sold more than 2,000,000 prints of his universally appealing Action Painting style in 1988 and 1998. Elements that recur in all styles used by Alfred Gockel are the quick gesture of his handwriting, and the associated movement and dynamics of his compositions. Alfred Gockel works from realistic and magical realistic to almost abstract.
