AL KOSTER

Draftsman, painter, etcher

Born in Terneuzen in 1859, died in Haarlem in 1937.

Education: From 1880, Koster went to the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. He has worked in Scheveningen, Terneuzen, Rijswijk, Gaanderen, Haarlem, Heemstede and in the Pyrenees.

Anton L. Koster painted and etched cityscapes, (dune) landscapes and still lifes. After his training in The Hague, he traveled through the Pyrenees for two years. In 1892 Mouton & Co. published an album in The Hague with twelve of Koster's etchings of city views made in Old The Hague. Koster was also an art teacher at the HBS in The Hague.

Exhibitions and prizes:

In 1916 Koster received a Royal Medal. His work is in the possession of the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague and the Frans Halsmuseum in Haarlem, among others.
