Chris de MOOR (Rotterdam 1899 - Amsterdam 1981)
De Moor first took lessons with the painter August Willem van Voorden and his great-nephew Pieter Cornelis de Moor, after which he studied at the Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences in Rotterdam with Alexander van Maasdijk.
He was awarded the "Degree of Honor" for woven fabrics at the 1937 Paris World's Fair. De Moor was affiliated with the Free Academy in The Hague as a teacher of figure drawing from 1946 to 1951. From 1951 to 1964 he was an aesthetic advisor at the PTT. In 1960 he formulated the 'twelve commandments for the stamp designer'.
He participated in various solo and group exhibitions, including in the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (1967), Rotterdam Museum Boymans Van Beuningen and Amsterdam in the Stedelijk Museum (1962). From 1956 he was a member of the Verve group, the Haagse Kunstkring. and Pulchri Studio in The Hague and joined the artists' group Fugare (65-67) in 1965. De Moor was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau in 1962. In 1963 he was co-founder of the group of 10 gouachists. After 1966, De Moor went to live and work in Italy, where he was greatly inspired by Bomarzo's 16th-century sculpture park. Work He painted, drew and watercolored, among other things, portraits, figures, still lifes and landscapes. Initially he did this in the style of business realism, later (after 1945) more in the style of abstract expressionism. He is considered part of the New Hague School. De Moor was also a designer of tapestries, murals and stained glass windows.
