Chris Tap studied economics and cultural anthropology before becoming a full-time sculptor. Over the past 12 years he has developed his passion self-taught.
His father, artist Wim Tap, taught him the tricks of the trade. Chris was taken by his father to Artis, where he made his first full-sized predators. In addition to studying anatomy, he spent a lot of time in zoos and had the opportunity to measure every detail of the animal. For example, in Artis he got the chance with a lion that also went under anesthesia. With this in-depth knowledge of animal anatomy, Tap creates impressions of nature perfected in detail. The impressive bronze or marble composite statues testify to enormous craftsmanship. With the intense look in their eyes, they seem to be able to come to life in no time.
The artist is fascinated by felines. Because of the strength, flexibility and elegance with which they move.
Tap has produced sculptures for UEFA, Puma, Cartier and Artis, among others, and his work is purchased by collectors from all continents.
