David TENIERS (Antwerp 1582 - Antwerp 1649)
Biography
David Teniers was a southern Dutch painter from the Baroque period. He is known as David Teniers (I) the Elder, to distinguish him from his son David Teniers (II) the Younger and his grandson David Teniers (III). He was apprenticed to both Peter Paul Rubens and Elsheimer in Rome. In 1606 Teniers joined the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke. Teniers is best known for its landscapes and village scenes. His work can be found today in St. Paul's Church in Antwerp, but also in museum collections in Brussels, Munich and Madrid, among others.
