Dick CASSÉE (Bloemendaal 1930 - Laren 2023)
Cassee trained at the AKI Enschede from 1950 to 1954. In 1961, he worked at Atelier 17 in Paris with SW Hayter. From 1966 to 1988, Cassee taught at the Academy of Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch.
Dick Cassee is one of the most important graphic artists in the Netherlands. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Cassee creates landscapes, dune landscapes, non-figurative, and geometric abstract works. Dick Cassee is inspired by expansive, deserted landscapes; his drawings arise from direct observation. He draws the subject dozens of times on the spot to "capture the form," after which they are further developed in the studio. After 2006, the figurative likeness became secondary for him.
