F_lix Labisse, Marchiennes, March 9, 1905 ? Paris, January 29, 1982, French surrealist painter, illustrator and set designer. He was of Flemish and Polish descent. Labisse was self-taught. Allowed himself to be influenced in his work by Magritte and Delvaux. Labisse's works often have an erotic touch. He himself called his works "libidoscapes". In 1966 he was elected to the Acad_mie des Beaux-Arts. A retrospective of his work was shown in the Rotterdam Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in 1973.
