Floris Meydam (1919-2011)
glass artist, Ceramist
Floris Meydam was born in 1919 in Leerdam. He became world famous as a glass designer and master glassblower. His career started as an assistant in the advertising department of the glass factory in Leerdam. In the 1940s he learned through an evening course in Art Industrial Education in Utrecht and as a student glass decoration at the Glass School Leerdam. He subsequently worked from 1949 to 1989 as a manager in the design department of Glasfabriek Leerdam, where he made designs for both consumer and packaging glass as well as decorative objects. Within the pottery industry he also made a name for himself as a designer with his work for, among others, Regina and Flora. From 1898 he continued as an autonomous glass artist and collaborated with international clients.
