Frans HOGERWAARD (Batavia 1882 - The Hague 1921)
Hogerwaard received his education at the School of Arts and Crafts in Harlem and at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. Here he became friends with Tjeerd Bottema and Wim de Haas. In 1910 he obtained the Prix de Rome and spent a long time in Spain and Italy. He was particularly known for his figures and his impressionistic landscapes, in which light plays an important role.
