Gerard de Boer (1874-1935)

Gerard Johannes Josephus de BOER was born on November 28, 1874 in Amsterdam. He was a student of the Rijksnormaalschool and the Quelliniusschool in Amsterdam. He painted and drew landscapes and figures (persons) and taught his wife SG van Harlingen. De Boer lived in Laren from around 1905, then went to Blaricum where he lived in the farm opposite the then post office. In 1925 he moved into the romantic country house "De Berk" on the then Leemzolscheweg in Laren. De Boer was a modest man and as a painter one could call him a romantic. He felt strongly attracted to the ideology of Richard Wagner and witnesses of this are De Boer's paintings "the Grail Bridge" and the "Fliegende Hollander". castles' in Blaricum known as 'black magi_r'. De Boer did not call himself a painter, but a philosopher of imagination. The Gooi also inspired him to create fine mood pieces. His last unfinished work is an impression of a Berkenlaantje. De Boer was one of the founders of the 'Association of Artists of the Idea'.
