Gerard van ROOIJ (Puiflijk 1954)
Gerard van Rooij (also Gerard van Rooy) was born in Puiflijk, a village in the municipality of Druten. He received his sculpture training from 1974 to 1979 at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch. As a stone sculptor, Van Rooij participated in sculptor symposia in Amersfoort (1987) and Steine an der Grenze in the French-German border area near Merzig in the state of Saarland (1991). Together with the sculptor Adriaan Seelen, Van Rooij gives master classes in stone sculpting in the French Vosges. In 2010, Van Rooij was invited to participate in the exhibition of 15 sculptors Fathers and Sons in the Museum Beelden aan Zee in Scheveningen.[1]
The artist initially had his studio in Aalst in the municipality of Zaltbommel, but now lives and works in 's-Hertogenbosch. His great passion is to find the stone himself that he wants to use to create a sculpture. He works the stone and waist direct.
