Gert Stegeman (Aalten 1858 - Arnhem 1940)
Gert Stegeman, initially a shopkeeper and textile trader, lived and worked in Arnhem and traveled to Portugal, Spain and Algiers to further develop himself as a painter in middle age. Later he taught Otto Stark and Beer Suringh, among others. He was a skilled painter, etcher and draftsman of (river) landscapes, cityscapes, animals and genre scenes.
