Gertrud VASEGAARD (Ronne 1913 - Ronne 2007)
Ceramic artist Gertrud Vasegaard grew up in a family of potters on the island of Bornholm. She followed her studies in Copenhagen, after which she started working at the studio of Axel Salto from 1932 to 1933. With her sister she set up a studio in Holkadalen and in 1936 she started her own studio where she made handmade, oriental ceramic products. This oriental interest most likely comes from the Danish link with oriental sea trade, but also from the respect for the high quality. From 1949 to 1959 Vasegaard worked at Bing & Grondahl Copenhagen, where she made ceramic works suitable for mass production. In the years that followed, she worked on a freelance basis for Royal Copenhagen, among others, and set up her own studio again, but this time with her daughter.
