Gorky BOLLAR (Montevideo 1944)
In 1960 he starts painting and takes lessons with the painter Jose Gurvich. Gurvich almost immediately recognized a naive painter in Bollar, because he wished to stick to the natural appearance of the object. Nevertheless, it is typical of Bollar that he enters into a dialogue with the world and contemporary art, so that initially constructivist influences resonate in his work. In 1966 Bollar came to the Netherlands, the start of a small odyssey that would definitively end in the Netherlands in 1976. Bollar's work can be characterized as a transformed autobiography with the traveling, searching man as its central theme, like an Odysseus bound to a fate. In essence, Bollar is an enchanted dreamer, who knows how to connect epic and lyricism in a very personal way, thereby placing himself largely outside time and its fashions and thus lends universal value to his work.
