Han Mes was born in 1936 in Koog aan de Zaan
Education:
Artist Han Mes studied at the Institute for Applied Arts Education (Amsterdam). After completing her education, she left for Paris, where she developed a predilection for medieval art through frequent museum visits. Inspired by this medieval symbolism, Han Me created his own visual language.
Han Mes is a painter who likes to work with oil paint. For example, Mes is able to coat her work with layers of paint in order to arrive at a certain texture. She likes to paint hard shadows and large areas of color. The main source of inspiration for Han Mes is people, life, this fascinates her immensely. Each painting tells a story, and together they tell her life story. Han Mes received a work grant from the French state and as a result she lived and worked in Paris for a number of years.
Exhibitions and prizes:
The exhibitions in the Singer museum in Laren brought her recognition and appreciation. In 2011, Han Mes had a solo exhibition in Bergen: Homage to Han Mes 75 years
