Harry Timmermann (1947)
Harrie Timmermann (1947) for many years combined his work in health care with his activities in the visual arts. For a long period he followed various (master) courses in the field of painting, drawing and graphic techniques. He experimented with various materials, but in recent years he has strongly preferred working with acrylic on canvas and paper. For several years he worked together with several artists in a group studio in Zonhoven, Belgium. Since early 2006 he has been working in his own studio in the beautiful village of Itteren near Maastricht. Harrie Timmermann finds his greatest inspiration in the landscape close to home or far away during his holiday and painting trips. In doing so, he becomes increasingly fascinated by trees in the different seasons, in various landscapes in various rhythmic repetitions. He collects material, photographs and sketches on the spot and then translates this in the studio into mostly elaborate paintings of acrylic on canvas or accurately placed impressions of acrylic on paper. He abstracts forms and color and, while painting, goes in search of the basic structures and rhythms in his object, which he then makes explicitly visible. He always tries to express the local color, the characteristic specialness of his objects. Despite his preference for abstraction, until now he wanted to amaze the viewer and continue to communicate with him by making the original motive for a work recognizable. More and more often this direct cause is no longer recognizable as such, the cause remains only a reason; no less fascinating for the spectator and maker, on the contrary. Although his activities in the visual arts already started at the end of the sixties, he has exhibited regularly from 1993 onwards. Many private individuals, organizations and galleries have already purchased his work.
