HENK RIJZINGA, born 28-4-1946 in Uithuizen and died 4-4-2013 in Amsterdam, painter, sculptor and activist. Henk Rijzinga was self-taught and active as a visual artist since 1972. His studio was located in Amsterdam. He made free work (paintings and sculptures) and also carried out projects in public space. He called his painting 'musings or reflections on the landscape, abstract but with a figurative slant'. Rijzinga has always combined his profession as a visual artist with the political side of things. In the hectic time of the abolition of the BKR, he was chairman of the Association for Visual Artists. He has always looked for a combination with politics, for the interface with society. As chairman, he was the face of Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam for a long time and was a member of the Commission for Visual Art Commissions Amsterdam.
