Jaap Hartman (1950)

Artist

Jaap Hartman (1950) was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, where he was taught by Arie Teeuwissen, sculpture and Gijs Voskuyl, drawing. In Amsterdam he studied under the supervision of professor Paul Gregoire and professor VPS Esser at the State Academy of Art.

Teeuwissen and Voskuyl in particular laid the foundation for the choice to work figuratively.

Later in Amsterdam it was mainly Gregoire who made him aware of the principles of sculpture. After Gregoire, the work at Esser was further expanded and he grew towards more independence.

Since 1978, Jaap Hartman has lived and worked again in his birthplace Woudrichem, where he approaches his work from the tradition.
