Jacobus Petrus Cornelis van Os was born on November 19, 1869 in Amsterdam and died on February 9, 1944 in Bolsward. He was married to the flower painter Lien Straver. Van Os was educated at the Quellinus Applied Arts School in Amsterdam and at the National School for Drawing Education in Amsterdam. He was also taught by, among others, Adrianus Martinus de Groot and Jan Visser (was also deputy director of the Teekenschool). Van Os worked as an artist in Amsterdam as well as in Bergen, Schoorl and Bolsward. In addition to being a painter and draftsman, he was certainly also a copyist. . Both genre and figurative pieces, portraits, landscapes, still lifes and cityscapes are known by him. He was a member of the Society of Visual Artists 'Kunst Zij ons Doel' in Haarlem.
