Jan Engelman was a student at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam and was taught by Kees Verwey, among others. His work is realistic, landscapes, portraits and figures. With an impressionistic touch.
Jan Engelman taught at the academy for art teachers in Tilburg. He works in the Dutch tradition, where his craftsmanship is clearly visible.
He was a member of the artists' associations Art Love? in Utrecht and the Hollandse Aquarellistenkring.
Jan Engelman's work can be found in museum, corporate and private collections, including the Boymans collection.
