Jan Keustermans was born in 1917 in Hoboken (Antwerp) and died in Womelgem in 2008. He was educated at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp. Keustermans was a watercolorist, painter, draftsman and graphic artist. He initially worked with a scrapeboard (compositions, scratched on black background) and thereby captured elements from the Kempen region and especially pine trees, which reappeared in his symbolic and heraldic compositions.
