About the artist Jan Sikora Born in Bydgoszcz, Poland. From 1957 to 1963, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Warszawa, specializing in graphic arts, under the supervision of Professor Marcin Szancer.
His graphic designs, but especially his paintings, have been exhibited in many European countries. In Poland, Sweden, Italy, and Spain, among others. Works by Sikora are not only in private collections, but also in various Polish museums.
Jan Sikora has lived in the Netherlands since 1985 and has had various exhibitions here.
His early works often had a surrealistic character, but later works are usually abstract with strong colours, often based on musical influences. Jan Sikora is practically deaf. The colors of his paintings exist as visual music.
In his new works, the artist searches for a new formality solution. He uses hard, concise and closed forms as well as weak and extended surfaces. Therefore, he wants to express powers over eternal battles. These forces fight each other and create systems of mutual tension or these systems intersect in harmony to reach a compromise. In this way the painter wants to express the forces that exist in our lives - life with its many exciting forces, which nevertheless have to find a solution in uncompromising coexistence.
