Jean DEMMENI (Padang, Sumatra 1866 - Bogor 1939)

Biography/ Education
Demmeni was a French/Indo-European topographer and photographer. He was the son of Henry Demmeni, a general in the Dutch East Indies army. Jean also joined the army and became an employee of the Topographical Service in Bandoeng. Jean Demmeni is known for his military photography. His most famous work is the school poster series: Plates of the Dutch East and West Indies and Suriname. These plates were published by Kleynenberg & Co in Haarlem between 1911 and 1913. The 170 plates were made on the basis of photographs that are believed to have been made by Demmeni.
