Johan Frederik Cornelis SCHERREWITZ (1868-1951)

Scherrewitz was born in Amsterdam, where he received painting lessons from the landscape painter Geo Poggenbeek. After that he lived and worked in Laren and Haarlem and settled in Hilversum in 1904. His oeuvre includes landscapes with cattle, horses and stable interiors. His work is closely related to the Hague School in both painting style and subject matter. He often painted at the North Sea. Much of his work was exported to England and the United States.
