John BIER (Santpoort, December 17, 1936) is a Dutch sculptor and draftsman.
Bier was a student at the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam from 1954 to 1958. He moved with his parents to Alkmaar when he was three years old, where he still lives and works. Humans play an important role in Bier's work. One of his better-known statues is that of beach finder Simon Gutker (1897-1988), which was placed at the end of the Hondsbossche Zeewering near Camperduin. In October 2010, vandals tried to cut this statue, presumably to sell the bronze.[1] The statue will be restored.
