Kees SALENTIJN (Amsterdam 1947)
Education: K ees Salentijn trained at the Amsterdam National Academy of Visual Arts and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
He lives and works in Amsterdam.
Salentine's first works are classified under his 'Spanish period' and are characterized by bullfights - which represent Salentine's emotional life - depicted in mixed techniques. In his 'black period', in the mid-1980s, the struggle that Salentijn feels when making each painting is central. In 1986 Salentijn developed a style of painting, which he called Mediterraneanism. The visual language of this art, characterized by a dominance of the sun and colors, arises from music and nostalgic feelings. From 1990 onwards, the convergence of figuration and abstraction turned to a more expressive, narrative figuration.
