The Kristalunie (Maastricht) arose from the merger of glass factories Stella and De Sphinx in 1925. The Kristalunie was a major competitor of Glasfabriek Leerdam and a number of designers designed for both factories. Willem Rozendaal and Max Verboeket made very contemporary designs for crystal, utility glass and glassware for the Kristalunie. Well-known collections of their hand are Manuvaria, Relevata, Quadravera, Raffaël, Carnaval, Staccato and Antiqua . The Kristalunie was taken over in 1959 by the Vereenigde Glasfabrieken in Schiedam.
In 1959 the Kristalunie became part of the Vereenigde Glasfabrieken in Schiedam, which had previously taken over the Glasfabriek Leerdam. Both companies continued under their own names, but the production of cut crystal was mainly carried out in Maastricht and the production of uncut crystal in Leerdam. Since the 1970s, Kristalunie has only produced packaging glass.
