Lies Was (1945-2012)

Lies Was (1945-2012)

Painter, Draftsman, Watercolourist

Lies WAS (Leiden 1945 – Wassenaar 2012)

Lies Was was a painter with a style that could be described as "wonderfully unrealistic realism." She based her work on direct observation, abstracting animals, trees, and farms into large, bold shapes, but with a subtle use of color that evokes space. She found her motifs primarily in the Westland region and around Wassenaar. She trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and also received private lessons from Kees Andrea. Was was a member of Pulchri Studio, Arti Shock, and the Association of Wassenaar Visual Artists, and taught at the International Art Club in The Hague.
