Lionel BAES (Ostend 1839 - Ixelles 1913)
Lionel Baes was a Belgian painter born in Ostend in 1839 and died in Ixelles in 1913. He was the younger brother of Edgar Baes (1837-1909), also a painter. As a painter he produced portraits, still lifes, landscapes, but especially genre scenes with different subjects. He also executed decorative paintings in buildings, including in the theaters of Leuven and Namur. They also painted watercolors and etchings. The subjects are the same as those of his oil paintings.
