Luis FILCER

Born in 1927 in Zhitomir, Ukraine.
Education:
Filcer began training at the age of seventeen at the most important Mexican art academy, the Academia de San Carlos.
Has worked in Rome, Amsterdam and Mexico, among others.
Luis Filcer had to flee to Mexico with his parents at a young age. There he trained and got his first success. A scholarship enabled him to study at various art academies in Europe for two years. Filcer lived in the Netherlands for a long period, but also traveled a lot during that time. The theme of his work, often figure representations and portraits, are contradictions in man on social, economic and religious levels.
Exhibitions and prizes:
In 1949, Filcer won a silver medal in a Mexican art competition; in 1950 and 1952 he won a gold medal. Filcer has represented Mexico at three Biennales, namely in Chile, Japan and England. There have been more than 200 exhibits of his Filcers, the largest of which was in 1994 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City.
