Luuk Scholten was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences in Rotterdam.

He lives and works in Utrecht

Luuk Scholten is a versatile artist. For 40 years he taught at the ABK in Rotterdam. Scholten is inspired by his environment, and likes to work in series. Luuk Scholten is one of the more important Dutch artists in the field of woodcuts. He has trained himself in the relief printing technique (linocut, woodcut and color woodcut). His work is figurative in nature.

For Scholten, man and his environment is the most important subject. He manages to make man visible in both his cultural and mythological environment in subdued, refined color nuances. In addition, flora and fauna in relation to humans play a major role in his oeuvre.
