Olaf Stevens (1954)

Olaf Stevens is a designer and artist specializing in ceramics and glass. He shares his studio space in Gorcum with his wife Vera Galis. In 1980 he completed his education at AKV|St. Joost in Breda and then worked there for another three years in the ceramic design department. In the 1990s, Stevens came into contact with Andries Copier, who encouraged him to create designs for glass. That is how he got to know Siem van der Marel. Stevens then started looking for locations to produce high-quality glass himself and eventually ended up in Sweden. Stevens also worked at the Keramisch Werkcentrum in Heusden, taught at the CWT Foundation in Tilburg and taught at the Free Academy The Hague and the Design Academy Eindhoven. Stevens has developed his own, very labour-intensive technique in which his objects consist of different layers of glass, creating surfaces with a lot of depth.
