Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943)
Oskar Schlemmer (Stuttgart, September 4, 1888 - Baden-Baden, April 13, 1943) From 1906 to 1910, Schlemmer studied at the Kunstakademie in Stuttgart, under Adolf H_lzel, among others. In the fall of 1911, Schlemmer settled in Berlin for a year. There he met the painters of the group Der Sturm. Under the influence of the painters Derain and Picasso, Schlemmer painted his first Cubist works. During the First World War he was a soldier in the Western Front. After his return, he set up the artists' group Uecht. In 1920 he set up the Triadic Ballet and had it performed in the Bauhaus, where he had come to work in 1920. He was also a painting teacher in Dessau. The Bauhaus thought that theater should have a political charge, Schlemmer disagreed and left the Bauhaus in 1929. Paris in 1930, he further elaborated parts of his triadic ballet. Due to the rise of National Socialism, an exhibition of his paintings was banned in 1933. In 1937 several of his works were exhibited as Entartete Kunst.
