Born in Wernigerode (Germany) in 1940
Education: Otmar Alt studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin in the 1960s.
Lives and works in Berlin.
Otmar Alt is one of the most popular German contemporary artists. His colorful work comes in all possible forms: paintings, objects, ceramics, glass, illustrations, theater design and utensils such as coffee mugs, glasses and telephone cards. He masters many craft techniques. Always recognizable by the use of bright colors and geometric surfaces. Otmar Alt creates a fairytale world with his mythical beasts and morphed creatures. Seemingly cheerful with deeper symbolic meaning. His great source of inspiration is the Spanish artist Joan Miró.
