Oxydiaen (1912-2000)
Barend Roest Crollius, works under the name Oxidiaen (formerly Paul Oxydius). Dutch poet and prose writer ('s-Gravenhage 6.5.1912). Studied for some time to be a concert pianist, then Dutch and did journalistic work for Algemeen Dagblad and Elseviers Weekblad. Debuted in 1935 with the anti-Nazi Chronicle of a Youthful Sin. In 1936 his anti-Hitler novel Onheil in the distance and the novel Land of Desire appeared. Before WWII, the work of Roest Crollius was hardly noticed, one of the reasons why he remained silent as a writer for a long time. After the war, Jan Greshoff in particular pointed to his qualities as a writer, but his work has never known much success. His epistolary novel Bezwarend witness (1963) was awarded[p. 490] the Marianne Philips Prize. However, the novel The Salvation of Miss Fran . received more attention
