Paul Kingma (1931-2013)

Designer

Paul KINGMA (The Hague 1931 - 2013)

As a sculptor, Kingma made a number of works for public space. He was best known as a mosaic artist with his heavy Kingma tables, which he started in the late 1960s. Out of admiration for the life and history of the earth, he inlaid tables with natural stone and materials that he collected from all over the world. Later he made tableaux with fossils and petrified wood, "an independent design that can later be used as a table". He was appointed in 1961 as the first director of the Institute for Visual Expression in Amersfoort, where he taught mosaics for five years.
