Peter van den BRAKEN (Eindhoven 1896 - Sterksel 1979)
Van den Braken knows at a young age that he wants to become a painter. After jobs as a house and church painter, he developed himself as an autodidact, although the contacts with father Jan and son Anton Kruysen were stimulating for his artistic education. A successful exhibition in Scheveningen in 1922, where he was noted by art critics by name, is the start of a long series of exhibitions at home and abroad. He is a freebooter who is attached to his freedom. He has lived in many places in the Netherlands and traveled all over the globe, leading an adventurous and restless life. In heart and soul he is and remains a Brabander who is devoted to his native soil, which is apparent from his work - also what he has produced along the way.
