Philip STARCK (Paris 1949)
Designer Philippe Starck is known for his contemporary, modern designs for interiors, furniture and utensils. Starck is also active as an architect. He studied at the École Nissin de Camondo and started his design career with a series of inflatable furniture for L. Venturi and Quasar. In the late 1960s, Starck started his own agency and became art director of the Pierre-Cardin studio. In the eighties he founded Starck Products, a company focused on the production and distribution of his own designs. Starck became internationally known thanks to a number of major interior commissions. Starck calls his designs from this period narcissistic and fashion-conscious, which is why he tries to focus more on sustainability and a more minimalist design ethic. According to him, it is the responsibility of the designer to make the consumer satisfied with fewer resources. Moreover, he is a champion of democratic design, good design for everyone. Starck has worked for various large clients including Adidas, Alessi and Vitra.
