Piet HEIN (Copenhagen 1905 - Middelfart 1996)
The scientist, inventor, writer and poet Piet Hein was mainly known for his poems, but also often wrote about the relationship between art and science. He designed the concept of the Superelips, a shape in which oval and square features are combined. According to Hein, this form had to be applied in urban planning, furniture design and more. Many of his products contain this Superelips in the design. Hein's designs show that he was looking for the ideal shape of products. Instead of historical sources, Hein used mathematics as the underlying basis of his designs.
