Piet WARFFEMIUS (The Hague 1956)

Painter, graphic artist, sculptor, ceramist.

Education:

Warffemius was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague from 1974 to 1979.

He lives and works in The Hague.

Trees are central to Warffemius' work, although Warffemius sometimes takes the abstraction so far that they are no longer recognizable. He also incorporates impressions of distant travels in his colorful compositions. Warffemius is part of the Potsdamer Gruppe, which also includes Armando. In 2007 Warffemius was a guest teacher at the art academy in Hamburg.

Exhibitions and prizes:

In 1997 Warffemius won the Jacob Hartog Prize and in 1980 the Godon Prize. His work is in many Dutch corporate collections, as well as in the possession of the Dutch government and a number of museum and important private collections.
