Robbert Fortgens (1960)

Artist

Robbert FORTGENS

Painter, photographer.

Born in Utrecht in 1960.

Education:

Fortgens was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.

He lives and works in Antwerp.

Fortgens' work is an expression of his personality and way of life. Fortgens incorporates what he sees around him directly into his art. The intuition with which he paints produces highly expressive compositions, while still maintaining a harmonious color palette. Fortgens' expressionist art is mainly inspired by the work of Willem de Kooning. In some works – especially those before 1988 – figurative elements also appear, which, however, continue to play a subordinate role. Fortgens also photographs.
