At the age of sixteen he apprenticed with the Rotterdam painter Cornelis Witters.
Hofman lives and works in Hellevoetsluis.
Roel Hofman started drawing at an early age, after which he quickly switched to painting. His style has moved from classical to more surreal and magically realistic. As one of the first things people respond to, color is the most important element in their work. In addition to painting himself, Hofman has a gallery and art library. Hofman regularly visits the French countryside to find peace and inspiration.
