Education: The Academy of Art and Industry in Enschede and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Was a teacher at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Lived and worked in Amsterdam.
Ronald Abram's work falls under the heading of ?op art?. Art that misleads the perception process with illusion or optical deception. Ronald Abram also championed the 'new figuration' art style. A style in which a recognizable image was not shunned, contrary to what was common in contemporary art at the time. However, the new figuration does not return to the classical perspective and a true-to-life representation of reality.
As a 7-year-old boy, Ronald Abram came from the Bergen Belsen concentration camp as an orphan. Years later, he converted his memories of the camp in France into grand expressive drawings. Several works by Ronald Abram can be found in the collection of the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam.
