Royal Leerdam

In the crystal factory of Royal Leerdam Crystal master glassblowers work according to old traditions on contemporary designs, from design objects to utensils. Glass has been blown in Leerdam since the 18th century. In 1891 the company Jeekel, Mijnsen & Co was converted into the NV Glasfabriek Leerdam, which gained more fame from 1912 under the leadership of PM Cochius. High quality products were made available to the masses at a low price. During the First and Second World War, the factory experienced many setbacks. In 1938 the glass factory Leerdam was taken over by the Vereenigde Glasfabrieken in Schiedam. In 1953, on its 75th anniversary, the factory received the designation “Royal Leerdam”. At the same time, the National Glass Museum in Leerdam was opened.

With designers such as Andries Copier, Karel de Bazel and Floris van Meydam, Royal Leerdam has developed an extensive and unique oeuvre with collections Unica (unique objects) and Serica or Multica (series). The Royal Delft Group was created in 2008 through the acquisition of Royal Leerdam Crystal by ceramics manufacturer Porceleyne Fles and the merger with the silver factory Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer.
