The versatile Saara Hopea was a ceramist, silversmith, glass designer and studied interior design in Helsinki. In 1952 she started at Arabia as an assistant to Kaj Franck. She also worked as a glass designer for Nuutajärvi. Hopea often designed glass products with different colors and without decoration. In the family business Ossian Hopea she came into contact with silver, which she remained interested in after her move to America. In 1967 Hopea returned to Finland. Hopea's oeuvre shows that a more humanistic approach is possible with industrially produced products.
