Walther (Walter) SAUER (Saint-Gilles 1889 - Algiers 1927)
Painter, draftsman, engraver and decorator. Started as a painter but later concentrated on drawing female portraits with a clear influence of Japonism. His work is classified as symbolism. In the 1920s, Sauer established an international reputation as a decorator. He represents Belgium at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1925 (which gives its name to Art Deco).
