Willem FEKKEN (Amsterdam 1908 - Hilversum 1999)
Willem Fekken was a student of JC Ritsema in Laren and of the Applied Arts School in Amsterdam. He lived and worked in Amsterdam and from 1929 in Hilversum. Willem Fekken also traveled to Paris, the south of France and the south of Germany, where he painted and watercoloured a lot. He was lifelong friends with Barend van Voorden, the well-known Kortenhoef painter. They painted a lot together and visited each other weekly, both in Kortenhoef and Hilversum. Together they made bike rides in the area in search of a nice decor while they made some art trips together to Paris and the south of France.
Willem Fekken has developed into an exceptionally gifted painter and watercolorist after attending the Art Academy in Amsterdam. His paintings are painted in an impressionistic style and in a particularly beautiful color scheme. He is mainly known for his excellent landscapes but also painted some beautiful flower still lifes and interiors. His watercolors of Amsterdam and Paris are particularly beautiful and detailed. Much of Willem Fekken's work has been sold through Galerie Koch in Amsterdam, while he also participated in the exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
