Willem Nijs ( Rotterdam 1902-1961 Amsterdam) was trained as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. After his training he mainly focused on painting and etching. His masterful etchings of fantastic landscapes and cityscapes are mainly inspired by archaic elements from the Roman period. All kinds of images in a surrealistic atmosphere were added to this.
